This is so good, and easy to make. Possibly make favourite cake. A can of Guinness makes four sponges, so I froze two. Defrosted the sponges and decorated as above. I think moving forward, I need to make more of all cakes and freeze them, so I’ve got cake ready to go!

If you wanted alcohol free, you could use the Guinness zero, you can’t really tell any difference between the two.
I think I’m going to give it a go!

I made it for my father’s birthday in 7inch pans. It turned out great. Presentation needs work, but that is all on me. I shared this link with friends because there isn’t enough cake for them to get a piece.

Hello, I’d like to use this as the basis of a tall shaped birthday cake. Is this structurally ‘ sound’ enough for that or is it too soft?
Thanks

How does this cake rise? It uses plain flour and bicarbonate of soda. No baking powder/ self raising flour?

Thanks

How would I scale up to make a 3 tier cake? 1.5 times ingredients? Thank you!

Oh no! This often means it’s over mixed, or the raising agent isn’t okay! x
